Riccardo Chailly’s reconstruction of the original 1904 version of Madama Butterfly pays tribute to Puccini, expressing the hidden quality of his opera. The original two-act structure is more audacious and intimate, especially in the tragic impact of the finale.
The first performance of this production, on the evening of 7 December 2016, received a quarter hour of applause.
