Auckland City Brass presents London Calling, a concert of music for brass band inspired by one of the world’s great cities.
Philip Sparke’s A London Overture is an ode to England’s capital, featuring a majestic opening theme and contrasting colours.
‘In Memoriam’, from George Lloyd’s Royal Parks, is dedicated to the bandsmen killed in a terrorist attack in Regent’s Park.
Denis Wright’s arrangement of George Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks brings to mind the pomp and ceremony of a fireworks display fit for a king on the River Thames.
Knightsbridge March is one of three musical portraits of London composed by Eric Coates, capturing the bustle of the famous retail district.
Derek Bourgeois’ Blitz has been described as “a test of skill, nerve, and stamina, culminating in an aural ‘Blitz’ of great ferocity.” It recalls the air attacks on London during World War II.
